The award winning Sheffield City College has undergone a redevelopment incorporating a trio of architectural aluminium systems. Kawneer’s aluminium curtain walling was applied to the student refectory opening the space up to light and providing panoramic views. The curved roof of the atrium has benefited from glazed strip sections and windows and doors consist of top/side hung casement and pivot windows and heavy duty commercial doors.

A host of energy efficient, sustainable features have been incorporated into this stunning structure, including three roof mounted 15m high wind turbines, a rainwater recycling system, photovoltaic solar energy panels, green sedum roofs, balancing pond, natural ventilation, low energy, highly efficient light fittings and an extra ground level turbine.

Integral to the sustainable college redevelopment was the use of aluminium as a highly recyclable and versatile material. This reflects the philosophy of the college with regard to renewable energy and sustainable building technologies.
